Martin introduced the 000-45 model in 1904, and by 1930, when Martin began full production of steel-string guitars, the 000-45 realized its full potential with the introduction of the tortoise pickguard and belly bridge. The 12-fret model was discontinued a year later in favor of the 14-fret version, but the 12-fret remains more desirable for its bigger sound. Martin produced only 14 known examples of the 000-45 with the belly bridge and tortoise pickguard.
